My name is Brianna (pronouns: she/they), but most people just call me Bri. I have spent the past few years working at the crossroads of science, technology, and community organizing and previously served as the community coordinator for the Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH).
In October 2024, I began a Fulbright student research grant to study the Mothbox, a low-cost and open source insect monitor. In doing so, I’m taking a deeper look at emerging open source technologies’ role in biodiversity monitoring efforts while hacking in the Panamanian jungle with the Dinalab team.
I also co-founded Queer Science!, an award-nominated podcast that explores the intersection of science and queerness, am a member of The International Society of Nonbinary Scientists (ISNBS) and manage the open source solutions group for WILDLABS. Sometimes, you might catch me performing as a drag artist, too!
What else am I up to?
- Participating in language exchanges 🌐 (I speak both English and Spanish)
- Playing volleyball 🏐, basketball 🏀, and tennis 🎾
- Spending time outside tending to my garden 🌱, hiking 🥾, and riding my bike 🚲
- Listening to music 🎵 and reading books 📖
Currently living in Gamboa, Panama.
